Through our Community Impact efforts, including employee programs and the Moody’s Foundation, we're tackling key challenges in emerging markets like income inequality and ecosystem restoration to help build resilient communities.
Our Community Impact strategy is comprised of two components:
Provide opportunities for our people to collaborate and build crucial skills through volunteering, leadership development, and employee-led giving.
The Moody’s Foundation directs our corporate social investing across both strategic and responsive funding priorities, including our crisis response, community giving, and corporate matching programs.
In 2023, we expanded our programs with Village Capital, an organization that supports impact-driven startups, operating in 15 emerging markets worldwide. This partnership bolsters economic mobility and middle-class growth by providing education, job opportunities, and access to financial services, with our employees serving as mentors and advisors.
We also continued our partnership with WEConnect International, a global network that links women-owned businesses with qualified buyers worldwide. Specifically, we are partnering with the organization on their "Financing Your Growing Business" program to support women in expanding their businesses.
In 2023, we continued our partnership with Instituto Perene, a non-profit civil association promoting practical solutions for the development of rural communities in Brazil. Moody’s assists the organization in providing environmentally sustainable cookstoves to low-income populations, which helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and increase the generation of decent jobs and income for rural workers.
We encourage employees to volunteer their time and apply their knowledge and expertise to strengthen their communities. This is achieved through numerous company-wide volunteer initiatives, including Moody’s TeamUp®, our annual season of service. In 2023, we had our highest employee engagement yet – with 26% of employees taking part, well above the industry average. Together, we held 150+ global projects across 32 countries and completed over 8,600 volunteering hours.
In 2023, the Moody’s Foundation launched the Community Giving Fund – strategically disbursing $300,000 in collaboration with our Business Resource Groups (BRGs) and employees. To select deserving non-profits, we implemented a voting system where employees nominated their organization of choice. In total, this innovative program provided funding for 8 diverse organizations focused on supporting disabilities, veterans, cancer awareness, and humanitarian causes, among other areas.
In response to various crises, our contributions were directed towards humanitarian relief and recovery efforts for people impacted by the wildfires in Maui (Hawaii) and the earthquakes in Turkey, Syria and Morocco.
Together, 27% of our employees contributed over 15,100 volunteer hours to their communities.

2 This amount includes supporting small businesses and ecosystem restoration grants, crisis response and community giving grants. In 2022 we offboarded 22 grant partners who no longer aligned with our new strategic focus areas, which is reflected in the lower grant payment for 2023 programing. In 2023 we went through an RFP process and will be working with additional grant partners in 2024.
3 Payments made by MIS, MA, and MSS that have been classified as charitable contributions.
4 Grants paid from Moody’s Foundation toward the Matching Gifts and Dollars for Doers programs.

In early 2024, we completed a Request for Proposals (RFP) process to find new non-profit partners aligned with our focus areas. As a result of this process, we are excited to welcome our new partners: Endangered Wildlife Trust, Nest Inc, Women's World Banking and World Wildlife Fund. Additionally, we are expanding our funding programs with two of our existing partners, Village Capital and WEConnect International.
Starting in 2024, we are enhancing two of our employee-led giving programs: Matching Gifts (company match for personal donations) and Dollars for Doers (volunteer rewards). This includes removing the minimum donation prerequisite, and allowing non-company sponsored volunteering to generate a $15/hour donation to approved non-profits.
